Eve Arnold
Eve Arnold was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Russian immigrant parents. After studying photography with the famed Bazaar photographer Alexey Brodovitch, she moved to England, where she lived the majority of her adult life. Among countless other awards, she was elected the highly prestigious Master Photographer in 1995 by New York's Center for International Photography. She had twelve books published before passing away earlier this year.
The above photo is a candid shot of the infamous Marilyn Monroe, taken by Arnold while Monroe was waiting for a flight in an O'Hare airport bathroom. I love the casual, almost playful moment Arnold captured. Eve Arnold published an entire book of Marilyn Monroe photographs in 2005.
I took this photo last semester before a Badger football game. I really like how the red stands in stark contrast with the greenish-blue water. I also like how the water looks forever ongoing, while the girls appear careless and free, even without being able to see their faces. I think it captures the fun loving spirit of a college football game day, drinks in hand!
