Elise Tran: Week 3

1.)

2.) The Rule of Thirds was designed for the viewer to look in a certain direction first. This is a guideline that proposes that an imagine should be divided into 9 equal parts by 2 equally-spaced horizontal lines and 2 equally-spaced vertical lines, and the compositional elements placed along these lines and intersections. This is to create more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would. By aligning the subject with guidelines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from sections. The main purpose of the rule of thirds is to discourage the placement of the subject at the center, or prevent a horizon from dividing the picture in half.
When photographing people, it is common to line up the body with a vertical line and having the person's eyes in line with a horizontal one. When photographing a still subject who is not directly facing the camera, the majority of the extra room should be in front of the subject with the vertical line running through their perceived center of mass.
