Richard Avedon (May 15, 1923 – October 1, 2004) was a Russian Jewish photographer who started his career taking pictures with a camera given to him as a present from his father. He was a fashion photographer who strived to differentiate himself in the fashion world by having his models display emotion through “smiles, laughter, and action.” He soon became the head photographer for Vogue.
