Hadley Manfredi - Week 2

This is a photo that I took in Paris this past weekend. It was a foggy night at the Eiffel Tower.  I really like how clear the water and the bridge look in front of the tower.  I also like how the street lights lining the bridge are a little out of focus.

Brett Weston - Photographer
Brett Weston was an American photographer.  He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.  He began taking photographs when he was only 13 years old and head his first international film exhibition at age 17, followed by his first one-man museum exhibition at 21.  Weston had a talent for a sense of the abstract, for taking a plane and flattening it.  He is best known for his work on the dunes around Oceano, California.  Brett Weston was credited by renowned photographic historian Beaumont Newhall as the first photographer to make negative space the subject of a photograph.

In this photograph I love how Weston captures the reflection of the clouds.  I also like the distinct curving shore line and the mountains in the background.  The photo is so sharp and so clear and there is a lot of contrast between the water, the land, and the sky.

Depth of Field
Depth of field is the range of distance that appears acceptably sharp. Depth of field changes based on the aperture and focusing distance.  With an aperture opening of 3.5 you will have a very specific focus and the rest will be less in focus, while with an aperture opening of 22 a lot will be in focus because a lot of light is being letting into the lens.

In this photo a small portion of the fence is very in focus while the remained of it is out of focus.  It is also impossible to tell what is behind the fence because it is so out of focus.
